Luke 22:28-30 “You are those who have stood by Me in My trials; and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
Peter and John are asked to prepare Passover dinner by Jesus at the beginning of Luke 22. He sits with them and shares His intent to have them rule over Israel as they share each other’s company. Servants in this age and kings in the next, but certainly it is their hearts as servants make them fit to be kings.
This story is saturated with servanthood and faithfulness. “You stood by my side.” A little flame in my heart wants to hear that phrase from Jesus.
“You stood by my side.” I want to stand by Jesus and the way to do it is immediately obvious to me. “Whatever you do for these little ones, you do unto me.”
My prayer is this, “I will stand with you Jesus. When you are represented in the unpopular, the outcast, the person who needs time on a tiresome day, or the one who needs a visit from a friend. I will give my time to stand with you. Help me Lord Jesus to put my own work and tools aside and stand with you in your hardships, meaning that I stand with those on whom you would extend compassion.”
Amen.
