1 Corinthians Chapter 4
Scripture- 1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.
Observation- Paul is talking to the church about using the gift of speaking in tongues and when to use it. But to not only to desire it but use it in order and to use it to strengthen ourselves. We should use our gift of tongues in Private unless its to edify the church through Holy Spirit. When you speak in tongues you are speaking to God and no one knows what you are saying except God . Paul mentions if a nonbeliever came into the church and hears the church speaking in tongues they would think we were crazy. So when we are together as a church we should pray to interpret tongues and to desire the gift of prophecy.
Application- We are called to do everything in love and make seeking love our highest priority and not draw attention to ourselves. Having Spiritual gifts is a honor to have and I personally do not want to misuse them in my walk with Jesus because he trust me to stewart them well
Prayer- Father, I pray through your spirit these gifts of prophecy will bring you glory and edify your body in Jesus Name
