The final paragraph of Numbers 6 is referred to as “the priestly blessing”. If you didn’t know, the prayer that Pastor Samuel uses to end every Sunday service comes from Numbers 6:24-26.
The LORD bless you
and keep you;
the LORD make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn his face toward you
and give you peace.
But what caught my eye in this bible reading was Numbers 6:27.
So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.
This verse states that when the priests (Aaron and his sons) blessed the people of Israel, then God himself will bless them. I love biblical examples of how God partners with us to accomplish His will. . . and this is one of those verses.
My question for you to consider is, in this verse, who is doing the blessing? Is it not both the priests and God? We know the power always comes from God, but it seems that, at least in this verse, that God blesses the people of Israel when the priests bless the people of Israel. So what does that mean for us today?
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Believers in the new covenant are a “royal priesthood” (by the way, this bible verse is the official verse of Chosen, our youth ministry led by Michelle Collazo). =This means you and I are priests in the new covenant! So, if you want to see people blessed in your life, then Numbers 6:27 implies that you should start blessing people.
Let us bless God’s people in Oxnard in Jesus name!
